In recent years, with the popularization of cars, the number of traffic accidentscaused by vehicles is also mounting. According to statistics, about30%accidents in thevehicle collision is the side collision. However, in our country, the road traffic mostly tothe intersection type, side collision is more frequently. In this case, both consumers andcar manufacturers are beginning concerned about the protection for passenger ofvehicle occupant in a side collision. Side Curtain Airbag was developted in this period, itwas become an effective measure to protect occupants in vehicle side impact..Therefore, how to improve the curtain airbag’s protection becomes a further study.The research work in this paper combines a project of my company. To study theprotection of Curtain Airbag,which is without air tube. The paper studies the structureand working principle of Curtain Airbag. Introduced the MADYMO software simply. Thepaper studies curtain airbag inflation process systematically,and the calculationmethods of the airbag and passenger contact process. The paper researches thecalculation method of the Curtain Airbag cover and thickness. It studies on the spreadprocess and time of the airbag,which has different folding methods.Then, the simulation analysis using PAM-CRASH software. The airbag’s pressureis analyzed by uniform pressure method and finite particle method.Analysis of inflater pressure and the thickness of airbag using CAE simulation.Using CAE to analysis of the inflater pressure and the airbag thickness. The simulationresults show that the inflater pressure240KPa,and the thickness of160mm, airbagoccupant protection effect is best. This also reflects the function of CAE technology inthe curtain airbag design optimization.Finally, through the performance test to verify the results of the designachievement. The paper uses HUDE static test and dynamic test to validate. The twotest results are in line with the airbag performance standards,《Road vehicles:Airbagcomponents. Part2: Testing of airbag modules(ISO12097-2:1996)》. The test resultsmeet the initial design requirements of the product. Achieve the goal of this paper.
