The number of cars increases rapidly with the rapid development of economy in our country, but traffic accidents also increase. Vehicle side impact is a more serious form in traffic accidents. Head and chest injury is the most common type in vehicle side impact, and is also the reason of serious injury and death. The curtain is the security device specially for head protection, so the research of curtain is of great practical significance for vehicle side impact.The crash simulation analysis was carried out on the curtain airbag system by using collision simulation software MADYMO in this topic, through the comparison of driver’s head protection performance with gas curtain protection system or without in collision accident, the good performance of curtain airbag system is verified. In this paper, combined with a real vehicle crash test data, the protection performance for constraint system of driver side equipped with the curtain airbag system is analyzed.Firstly, according to collision experiment data of a real car, and the constraint system simulation model is created by using the software CATIA, Hyperworks and MADYMO, the model including safety gas curtain, side collision bodywork and fake people. The crash test simulation is carried out in MADYMO by applying the crash acceleration curve of the simulation test of a real car model, according to the output of the test results and comparison, the validity of the model is proved, the factors of the errors are analyzed based on the test.Secondly, the experiment is simulated for the side impact system with air curtain system or without, good performance with air curtain system is showed in the side impact system according to the results of vehicle side impact test. At the same time, the faults are analyzed for air curtain system, optimization direction is given for the faults.Finally, according to curtain problems of driver side constraints system, optimization direction of this topic is determined in the occupant protection system. variable parameters are given by design parameters sensitivity of air curtain system model. Using the method of orthogonal test and extreme difference analysis method, final constraint system parameters are given, the effectiveness of the proposed optimization method in this paper is verified by contrasting the test results with the original model.
