With the coming of the era of and extensive exploration to ocean, the philosophy ofharmony with ocean has to be established by human beings to avoid the oceaniccontamination during the procedure of transportation or exploitation. As a major marinetransportation means, the ships bear some two-third amount of global logistics and ithowever did brings a tremendous impact to the marine ecological environment as well,among which the ballast water has caused very serious problems and attracted more andmore concerns all over the world.Recent years, variety of ballast water treatment system have been developed by bothdomestic and abroad makers whereas a new concept so-called Non-ballast Ship emergedwhich mainly comprise of V-shape NOBS concept in Japan, Through Flow System Hull inAmerica and Monomaran in Netherland.In this paper, the principle of V-shape NOBS have been employed and a newtween-screw NOBS concept ship have been developed based on a59000DWT Oil Tanker asa parent vessel.The main works in the paper focus on followings.Firstly, the overall background of ballast water problem and state-of-the-art ofNon-ballast water ship have been described.Secondly, the research and design of Non-ballast vessel in question have been expandedin aspects of main particulars determinations, lines, ship modeling, general arrangement,subdivisions, structural layout and scantlings rule calculation, lightweight estimation, andship performance calculations.Finally, a tween-screw non-ballast preliminary design has been developed and someuseful conclusions have been made.
