The paper discusses China Classification Society (CCS) how to deal with the problems of existing ship, when the International Convention for the Control and Management of ship's Ballast Water and Sediments become effective.Firstly, the paper introduces the environment pollution, which results from the harmful Aquatic organisms and pathogens in ballast water. Then it introduces the worldwide feedbacks for the pollution. International Maritime Organization (IMO) has been actively engaged in seeking a solution to these problems, which developed and issued a set of guidelines and international convention for the control and management of ship's ballast water and sediments.Compared with the different methods for ship's ballast water treatment, this paper focuses on the method of exchanging ballast water at sea, which has just been accepted by IMO. And it concentrates on the problems (stability, strength and trim of ship) in respect of safety and its solutions. The purpose is to help the crews to use the methods of ballast water treatment properly. The paper also draws a proposal on how to prevent the corrosion of ship's construction, which the technology of electrolyzing seawater and the method of heat water apply on board. Finally, the paper discuses the method of additional ISM audit.
