Zhangjiakou is a historic city in Hebei Province, which has many historic buildingsfrom Ming Dynasty500years ago. At that time everything was not incomplete withbackward production tools and techniques. But local toilers used their hands to createcolorful historic vernacular architectures for us. When we wonder at the wisdom ofpredecessors, we have also found a profound impact and great research value ondescendants from historic buildings.In the present study, through investigation and interview and mapping we analyzedand summarized some aspects of several representative vernacular architectures, includingthe distribution, feature, morphological characteristics, decorative art, internal spaceconstruction technology and influence of surrounding city construction. The informationwas collected from horizontal to vertical, general to specific and macro to micro. Toexplore the great effect of geographical condition, economic condition, climaticenvironment and custom culture of Zhangjiakou region on the distribution, development,evolution, architectural style, architectural culture and architectural art form of vernaculararchitecture in this region. To find out the building cultural value of these vernaculararchitectures with rich folk culture and region characteristics, and to raise a question howto protect and develop the vernacular architecture of Zhangjiakou region under the greenvision.
