The brick masonry struetures is widely used in the buildings of our country. Due to it’s low strength material, poor structural integrity and the disadvantage affect of construction and material slection, it’s capability of seismic resistance is poor. This paper analyzed some commonly used reinforcement method of masonry structures and pointed out some suggestions.The brick wall with structural columns which reinforced by the steel mesh with the cement mortar layer was studied through the low cyclic loading test. On the basis of the experiment and relevant codes,six brick walls’ seismic performance which reinforced by different reinforcement methods were tested by the ANSYS FEM analysis.The results show that the structural column has a great influence on the wall’s seismic performance and the steel mesh with cement mortar layer and CFRP can improve the ductility and bearing capacity of the wall.According to the resarch results some suggestions about structural column’s effect in the calculation of the masonry structure’s seismic capacity and the relevant reinforcement formula are put forward.
