The transmission is an important part of the vehicle’s transmission system. Its dynamicperformance plays an important role in vehicle transmission system. Transmission’sperformance can directly affect the vehicle’s power, economy, handling and other importantproperties. So that, there will be great significant on the improvement of the vehicle’s power,economy, maneuverability, through study the phenomenon of mechanical transmission’sreverse gear shifting to neutral. Mechanical transmission’s design is a complex work, and itconcludes many parts. Among all parts in a car, the reverse mechanism is an integral part.Design parameters of the transmission gear are particularly important. At the same time,thegear load/speed/vibration characteristics of the transmission gear are facing higher standard.The Application of virtual prototyping technology can achieve the design phase of systemperformance evaluation and optimization of simulation, further can achieve the purposes thedesigner’s targes, such as improved product performance, shorten development cycles, andreduce development costs.This paper use virtual prototype technology to simulation analysis the phenomena ofreverse gear shifting to neutral, aim to reveal an optimization scheme for solving the reversegear off. First, create a three-dimensional solid model of transmission parts by the software ofPro/ENGINEER and complete of the transmission assembly modeling. Secondly, we canachieve the dynamics simulation analysis after a series of controls, such as, simplify andimport the model accompany with corresponding constraints and drivers.The paper focuses on the reverse shifting to neutral phenomenon, though analyzing thesimulation results, aim to reveal the contact force’s changes between transmission reverse gear,according to the contact force and position’s changes, further, try to find out the cause of thereverse gear off and put forward optimization scheme.Then base on the optimization scheme,we try to modify the related parts, and create the new model and simulation analysis. Thesimulation results show the optimization program can make a solution to the transmissionreverse gear off, and achieve the targets as expected. At the same time, the project researchresults also illustrate the virtual prototype technology in transmission development andperformance evaluation of effectiveness.
