Pulverizing system is an important auxiliary system of coal-fired power plants, its safe and economic operation directly affects the safety and economy of the whole coal-fired unit. However, the accidents of pulverizing system due to coal dust’s spontaneous fire and explosion were frequently reported,which caused damage of the equipment and even brought about heavy casualties and great property loss. It has become a significant task for safety operation and management of power plants to effectively control spontaneous fire and explosion accidents of boiler pulverizing system.In this paper, the structure and principle of NO.8boiler pulverizing system in Petrochemical Thermal Power Plant was firstly introduced and then the coal quality characteristic and its influence on the pulverizing system was deeply analyzed.. Through combining the domestic and foreign literature studies with the case study of coal dust fire and explosion accidents since the plant was established, the potential hazard factors of NO.8boiler pulverizing system were identified and the condition, location and characteristic of the accidents were analyzed b from the view of system engineering. Bases on the basic principle of analytic hierarchy process(AHP), the causing factor model of the coal dust fire and explosion accidents was established and the indicators and their weights were calculated. the relative importance of indicators, the development of coal dust explosion and the hazards of explosion within pulverizing system were discussed.Finally, the concrete and feasible preventive measures were proposed in the view of technology and management according to the cause analysis of coal dust explosion of pulverizing system.
