With the planning and construction of "North China-Central China-East China" UHV interconnected power grid, security and stability of power grid is significant. Therefore, it is essential to study about Automatic Generation Control (AGC) mode, control performance assessment standards and strategy, to make sure that power grid can be operated safely and stable.AGC status of North, Central and East China power grid has been researched, so as the AGC modes in typical grid in the world. Two new thoughts on classification of AGC mode are proposed, especially the thought of "Centralized-Multilayer-Hierarchical-Decentralized" Also, an AGC mode frame is proposed suitable for the development of UHV synchronized power grid.Based on the analysis of UHV power grid construction, two AGC control schemes for its transition period are designed."Multi-zone Standard T" is proposed for the first time based on the derivation of power fluctuation on the multi-zone interconnected grid tie-lines and research on CPS, Standard T and Standard G, which is suitable for active power control for UHV chain-like interconnected grid tie-line, also as the corresponding T1/T2index and responsibility degree index. With simulation of UHV interconnected power grid, it can be proved that "multi-zone Standard T" could correctly evaluate the responsibilities of every control area for the power fluctuation on the tie-lines as well as their contributions. It is also conducive to frequency recovery and fluctuation reduction on the tie-lines.The transitional classification ideas of "Centralized-Multilayer-Hierarchical-Decentralized" and "multi-zone Standard T" which is suitable for performance assessment to UHV interconnected grid in this paper, provide references for improvement of AGC strategy, are also conducive to improve operation ability of grid operators and dispatchers, and, provide a powerful guarantee for the further large interconnected grid.
