Currently in China, the quality inspection methods for the inner surface of a brake master cylinder used by domestic manufacturers mainly focus on direct visual observation and mechanical measurement, which leads to low efficiency and precision, and a lack of unified standards as well. Hence in this paper, a new defect detection method for the inner surface of workpiece is brought forward on the basis of CCD Image Processing Technology, and an intact set of detection algorithm is studied and proposed, which would achieve contactless industrial automatic testing of high precision and fast speed.In the paper, the functions and technical specifications of the detection system are firstly introduced, followed by an overview of the general design scheme of the system and respective discussions on image digitalization, pre-treatment and edge detection. A new edge detection operator is proposed as a focal point of the paper, and a further study is conducted on the methods used for extracting the features of common defects of the inner surface of a master cylinder.In the final chapters, analyses are made on error and defection precision of the whole system.
