How the buildings give human beings mental touch and inspiration?This is the purpose of this paper. After the middle of18th century, Human material world developed rapidly, but the speed of spirit world progress slowly. Functionalism propagated its belief on a large scale, expressionism was in the ascendant, but the effort of construction’s spiritual exploration was limited. Therefore, the writer hopes to contribute new inspiration for design practice by exploring construction’s spiritual.Material determines consciousness, consciousness cultivate sprit, To the construction, people build and establish "consciousness Of space" through perceptual awareness. If there is no consciousness, there is no sprit. Therefore making research from the consciousness view, base on the theory of phenomenology, and let the nature of space as the research object to explore the construction method of "The sprite of space" preliminary."The sprite of space" is the unity of the materiality and spiritual expression of the space nature.It is trying to break the traditional subject-object dualism thought, with the view,such as a kind of "nature and humanity"、"Thing and I being one". It contains the deep understanding of material and spiritual connection between people and the environment, known as "Local Conception"; also includes the building content、body feelings、critical thought and material and spiritual connection between them. Called "Spatial Conception" Also contains the "Spiritual Energy" that motivated by Local conception and Spatial conception. At the same time, the author put forward the spirit of space construction logic according to Louis I Kang’s saying and thesis about sprite of Hegel:"intangible-tangible-intangible" and the progressive process:"sensibility-rationality-spirit" and make this as the philosophy essence of guiding construct.And then build up a set of design methology of practice of practical design by building "Local conception" constructing "Spatial conception" and motivating "Spiritual energy", and make consciousness as a clue, perception as the entrance, build space spirit as the goal.In order to verify the rationality of the design method of this paper and can be implemented, at the end of this paper, the author made an overall analysis about three classic architecture works, to reveal the construction method of building spirit; Then, combined with their own design practice, find out the influence in practice spirit of practical problems,and puts forward a solution. Through the study of the spirit of space and the design method of exploration,the author hopes that the architecture can be the same as philosophy, literature and art that can create the precious spiritual wealth for the society. So that it can nourish people’s heart,make people generate powerful spiritual force; let people liberated from the material world, make people gain spiritual solace and be move; and at the same time people will feedback society by this force, make it becomes a potential thrust of human progress.
