More and more people are concerned about the operation of the power system reactive power and reserves as well as its optimization control are the important content of keeping a safe and economic operation of grid. The article from the generator reactive power reserve validity and directionality two sides defined four kinds of generator reactive power reserves, thereby established the minimum generator reactive power reserves calculation model, And proposed a solution method based on particle swarm optimization algorithm. And on this basis exploring reactive power compensation from the point of view of optimizing reactive reserve.First, provide an overview of the current study situation of the power system voltage stability and reactive power reserves, briefly elaborate the role of the reactive power in power system, highlight the theoretical basis of the concept of reactive power reserves and the important role in the running of the system, as well as analyze reserves reactive optimization algorithm.And then, the reactive power reserve is classified according to the generator, load, and reactive power compensation device. Show the definition of the traditional generator reactive power reserves in four different forms, and analysis by the IEEE9-node system. On the basis of the previous, propose definition of generator effective reactive reserves. Show rationality and the innovation of the effective reactive reserves herein by comparing a practical example.Subsequently, under the premise of ensuring the stability of the power system voltage establish calculation model of the smallest generator reactive power reserves, and propose a solution method based on particle swarm optimization algorithm. The method is based on the definition of effective reactive reserves, considering the normal operation status and fault operation status, find the minimum generator effective reactive reserves of the system, which satisfies the constraints of the safe operation of the particle swarm algorithm.Finally, combine generator reactive power management and system reactive power compensation, form a multi-objective optimization problem. Propose an optimization method for a minimum of generator reactive power reserves, which considers the reactive power compensation. This approach improves the objective function and the constraints. When the system load growth, relying solely on the generator reactive power output can not satisfy the requirements of safe operation of the system.This method resolves it by increase the reactive power compensation at load node.The multiple examples are adopted to verify the validity of the above algorithm.
