Virtual Assembly is a major component of virtual manufacturing; Virtual Assemblycan be used to perform and test assembly or disassembly procedures, to check if productparts can be assembled with specific tooling and equipment and if the assembled productsare removable before they are physically built. This has help in shortening developmenttime; saving materials and ultimately cutting cost (as errors are found and corrected atearlier stage in the development cycle). Within the product design and manufacturingproduction lifecycle process, assembly is an important component that has a verysignificant effect on the quality of the product.Simulation is experimenting on models to achieve specific system research goals oroptimization through testing of different system configurations. Simulation aided bycomputer (systems) is based on the rules of similarity. Some of the simulations done invirtual manufacturing are factory, plant or workshop simulation, machining simulation,assembly simulation, ergonomics simulation and collusion simulation.This paper deals with the Production Assembly Planning and Virtual Simulation of anAir Compressor, utilizing virtual manufacturing, virtual assembly and virtual realitytechnologies to help with the virtual simulation. This is done by first making a digitalmodel of the air compressor using SolidWorks, then planning the assembly route andsequence using DELMIA, after these the air compressor production workshop is developedusing Siemens Tecnomatix software for finally designing and simulating the processes andlayout as well as the logistics of the workshop where the assembly production is carriedout. this effectively solve the problem of the air compressor assembly production.This paper covers chapters on introduction, assembly sequence planning, plant layoutdesign and system simulation, before going on to production workshop flow simulation.
