At present, China’s investment in highway construction is increasing. According to the12th Five-Year Development Plan, it will be completed the tasks of the National ExpresswayNetwork Plan ahead of15years, the highway construction is still the key development goals.Plan proposed to implement the modern project management, continuously to improve thelevel of construction management, promote highway construction and strictly implementmandatory technical standards of road engineering to ensure quality and safety. Of road andbridge enterprises especially state-owned enterprises used to extensive management, ownersof the project make more comments on quality, safety and progress, it is difficult to achieveeffective controlment of quality, safety, progress and cost. Therefore, the traditional extensivemanagement model of high input, high consumption, high-cost, low output has come to anend, we must change it for the refined one. From the essence, Lean thinking is the source ofthe meticulous management theory, and meticulous management is a practical application ofLean thinking.The thesis will first explore the theoretical foundation of lean thinking, introduce theorigins and development of lean thinking, describe five basic principles of lean thinking: toredefine the value based on customer needs; to identify the value stream; to flow the valuestream; to pull the value stream relying on customers needs; to pursue perfection. Then thethesis will introduce the management tools and the basic management principles. Leanthinking will be applied to project management of changsha-xiangtan highwayconstruction.The thesis will analyse the quality, safety, schedule, cost management, explorethe mode of meticulous management in highway construction, improve the quality, safety,schedule and cost management, raise operational efficiency and economic benefits ofhighway construction. It will form a set of data of project management, fitting for China’snational conditions, on behalf of the interests of the industry.Through the application of lean thinking in changsha-xiangtan highway projectmanagement,it is improved the basic quality of the personnel,effectively resolved thecontradiction between quality,safety,schedule and cost,enhanced the quality of theproject,ensured the safety of construction and the progess of the project, effectively controlledthe cost to the optimality and improved the overall quality of highway construction and thelevel of the corporate management.
