Feeder automation is important for improving the reliability of power supply distribution network of the city. Now the more mature technology is divided into centralized and decentralized. Central is based on the coordination of computer communication network and feeder terminal module. When the distribution line faults, Feeder terminal module each will this time their collected information uploaded to the distribution automation master station computer center. The computer through their own preset logic, make the fault section judgement, The switch then master control command operation fault area to isolate the fault. Decentralized is based on the cooperate between distribution automation terminal module. The terminal module need multiple reclosing can isolate the fault area. But the Power supply can’t restored fault isolation ends.In view of the disadvantages above two kinds of principles, proposes a distribution area protection principle based on optical fiber communications, According to the principle of developed area protection device of a new generation of feeder. The main features of the regional protection is the use of the optical fiber communication to link all feeder terminal device associated with the terminal are hand in hand together. Some important information can be shared in the optical fiber communication network. So establishing communication system between each feeder terminal.
