Ultra Short Base Line Position System plays an irreplaceable role in the field of marineexploration, marine mineral resources, marine defence and so on. Thus, it has been concernedby people more than ever before. The main assignment of USBL is to calculate the position ofunderwater acoustic beacons/transponders fixed on a target by acoustic method. The digitalprocessing platform design is the central part of Ultra Short Base Line Position System, at thesame time it is important to the system’s function implementation.The USBL’s digital processing platform is researched and designed according to thesystem’s general requirement, which is based on the structure of DSP and FPGA that has thecharacteristics of flexible structure and strong currency, taking one chip of high-performanceEP2S90F780C4FPGA and three chips of TMS320C6416DSP as the core, extending theexternal circuit based on the system requirement. The master-slave frame DSPs are used asthe center of data processing; FPGA is responsible for the control of the whole platform andsignal pre-processing; serial communication between the system and PC, GPS, compass isrealized by two chips of universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter TL16C754; the dataacquisition is completed by one Analog-to-Digital converter; original data upload is realizedby DP83848C. The circuit component and function of every part is presented in detail in thisthesis.Besides, the FPGA software is accomplished by Verilog HDL language including dataacquisition, synchronous signal generation, system instruction analysis, GPS and compassdata analysis. What is more, the time delay estimation used sliding correlation is processed byFPGA.Through laboratory tests and the outfield experiments, digital processing platform goeswell, meets the demand of the positioning system, and achieves the expected goals.
