Green renewable energy is used with little pollution and emission. as a type ofgreen renewable energy, wind power has huge reserves, even be unlimited. For itsadvantages, wind power has got more and more attention all over the world. Verticalaxis wind turbine can be erected and maintained easily, has no need for yaw-device,get stressed evenly etc. However, its poor starting performance and low efficiencymakes its development slow down. Based on this, variable pitch control system isintroduced to vertical axis wind turbine for the corresponding research in this paper.A small variable pitch vertical axis wind turbine has been designed in this projectaccording to the domestic and foreign development. Based on the design, completedhardware and software of the variable pitch control system, realized the integration ofmechanical and electric system. In the paper, there is brief introduction about themechanical structure, the main content is aimed at the variable pitch control systemdesign:component selection, software and hardware design, experimental research ect.Designed hardware of the control system in modular: independent function usingindependent hardware module for simple and convenient maintenance. The moduleused the ARM Cortex-M3CPU. The control system consists of the Data-acquisitionmodule, the Master-control module and the Servo-control module, communicationbetween modules is based on CAN bus and wireless485bus.Developed the multitasking system based on the ucosIII real-time operatingsystem, providing a reliable and simple-maintaining platform for the application-software. The servo control system has been simulated based on the MATLABSimulink, then designed the PID controller, at last usd the tools of Simulink RTW togenerate the embedded C code of the PID controller, the process all above makessimulation to be actual application. Based on ARM controller firmware library,completed the bottom programing and algorithm development.Combined with the hardware and the software, the system can change the pitchangle in real time according to the status,which makes the wind turbine run in thebetter status.
