| The product innovation is the key to the survival of enterprises in market competition. Asone of the most important aspects in the product development process, the concept design is thebasis to achieve the innovative design of mechanical products. And it is also the most difficultstage in the entire process of product design. As the important stage of product innovationdesign, the design theory and method of conceptual design had become the basis to implementthe rapid product innovation design. Although some researches about design theory had beenmade at this stage, especially the TRIZ theory was used to help designers to solve engineeringproblems. But a bottleneck about the conversion of universal solution to domain solution isarisen, that is the low efficiency of domain solution obtained. Because of domain solutionobtained is a wide range issue, so the invention principles are mainly used as the research object,starting from building the component knowledge model which is based on functional analysisand the knowledge base, to explore the transformation process by the universal solution todomain solution.The research status of the conceptual design, TRIZ theory and the solving method ofdomain solution are summarized in this paper firstly. And through the detailed description ofdesign theories and methods in the related fields, the purpose and significance of this researchwere proposed. According to the cause of the problem in the conversion process formuniversal solution to the domain solution, the main contents of this paper were determined.In the aspect of knowledge model building, through the research of functions andcomponents, according to the different function action and energy transfer laws of variouscomponents, the components are divided into seven categories. Using the expression of thefunction library, the action types are divided into eight categories. Then the componentknowledge model which based on the functional analysis was constructed, and knowledgemodel repository of functional components was created.In research of the knowledge base building, combining with the physical behavioranalysis of the invention principles based on functional basis, the specific reasons of conflictarises were parsed and the solution of the conflict was generalized. Then the building ofinvention principles knowledge base was completed finally. In order to facilitate system analysis and the choice of program and associate with the component model and the inventionprinciples, the construction of the effect knowledge base and the resources library werecompleted.In the aspect of reasoning techniques, the expression mechanism and retrieval rules ofinstance which are supported physical behavior analysis, principle and functional analysiswere established, and the instance retrieval steps of using principle innovation instanceretrieval similarity function were proposed. Combining with the case-based reasoning andrule-based reasoning, the concept design methods of knowledge-based reasoning were putforward.Finally, in the aspect of research and development of the system, the softwarearchitecture and the main function module were introduced, and running processes of systemwere analyzed.
