As an important part of metropolitan public transport, urban rail transit plays an important role in easing traffic congestion and promoting sustainable development of urban transport. Urban rail transit is entering a period of rapid development in China in recent years, and it has evolved transit network with the enlargement of its scale. Transfer station is the intersection of the different lines in the network, so scientific and rational transfer coordination is important to increase transfer convenience and operating efficiency of the urban rail network. The urban rail transit transfer station under the condition of network operating is studied as the main object in this paper. Firstly, the theory and concepts about urban rail transit transfer station is introduced, and then the objective and meaning of transfer coordination are proposed. And the three factors including transfer passenger, transfer facilities and train organization which influent transfer coordination are analyzed..Secondly, three train connecting optimization models of minimization transfer waiting time, the number of waiting transfers and the both are formulated on passage transfers. Two kinds of algorithm are proposed based on the difference of the average train intervals between the coordinated lines. If the average train intervals of the couple of coordinated lines are same, the traversal methods can be used to make the first trains connecting optimization, otherwise, real-coded genetic algorithm is presented to solve the optimization model. Finally, a case study of transfer coordination about two couples of lines of Yonghegong Lama Temple transfer station is carried out using methods proposed by the paper. Transfer walking time distribution of two transfer directions are described by three parameters Weibull function. And then the effectiveness of the optimization model and the algorithms are certified. The results prove that, the three strategies of transfer coordination can make obvious optimizations to the current situations. However, those the difference of the average train intervals and transfer passenger flow volume can make the optimizations different. Also the better applicability of the three transfer coordination objectives, as transfer coordination strategies, should be made based on the conditions of passenger flow and train intervals.
