Embedded on-board navigation technology is composed of communication technology, global location technology, embedded technology and geographic information system technology. This article embarks from the system hardware design and the software design, aims to design a high performance, low-cost embedded GPS vehicle navigation system.This paper introduces the GPS vehicle navigation system’s present development situation and prospects, as well as the global positioning system (GPS)’s complications, localization principles and position errors.This system selects the S3C2440A microprocessor in the hardware aspect which is promoted by Samsung Corporation for the entire hardware system construction core, and expanded LCD, touching screen, Ethernet, SD card, GPS module interface circuit, etc.This system chooses the Linux operating system as the software development platform in the aspect of software, has completed the establishment of development environment, the formulation and compilation of system kernel, the establishment of the root file system, driver correlation development and other related operations.This paper finally tested the embedded GPS vehicle navigation system, through the serial port making the GPS information which is received by the development board to demonstrate on the PC machine. The data demonstrated on the PC machine is entirely accurate through tests, had proven the embedded GPS vehicle carries the guidance system to work normally, also move stably and reliably, has realized the anticipated function.
