Urban traffic problems of many cities in China are more and more serious and the public transport has become a fundamental measure to solve that problem. In the public transport system, urban rail transit occupies a leading position of urban passenger transit for its advantages in large capacity, high speed, safety, timely and efficient. Due to the sequential character of rail transit lines construction, in practice, the program of conventional bus transit network optimization and adjustment is usually planned in coordination with the new rail transit line. The methodology of conventional bus transit network optimization and adjustment with new rail transit line in operation is worked on. The following parts are mainly contained:By studying the characteristics of conventional bus transit lines based on new rail transit line, the relationship between the rail transit line and conventional bus transit network has been understood. Simultaneously, on the basis of comparing the characteristics of rail transit and conventional bus transit. classification and characteristics of bus lines are analyzed considering the competition and cooperation relation, topological structure relation with rail transit line respectively.The characteristics of bus lines optimization and adjustment with new rail transit line under operation are investigated. The overall principles as well as the optimal strategies of bus lines optimization and adjustment are proposed.After adjusting the passengers traveling O-D matrix, the origin-destination sites for bus-route are determined according to passenger flow volume. Then through establishing an optimal stop-spacing model of minimizing the total travel time of passengers, the stop-spacing of bus and urban rail transit is determined. After discussing a simple adjustment to the lines will not bring the total optimal benefits of the systems, then establishing an optimal coordinated model of minimizing the total cost consists of operator cost and passenger travel cost.Last but not least, this paper establishes the index system of the bus lines in rail transit corridor, and evaluates the optimization scheme according to grey relational analysis. As an example, for the Ningbo Rail Transit Line1, study is conducted for the connection between No.1line and the bus lines in the corridor. Analyzing the methods comes to the results and evaluating the results confirmed the superiority.
