Research On The Design Of The Vernacular Landscape

Since the reform and opening up, with the speeding up of China’s citydevelopment, the construction of a new socialist countryside, the integration ofurban and rural construction and “Globalization” ideas win support among thepeople, so many of our local culture and landscape lost their original appearance,following the same pattern, and around the local characteristic is also graduallydisappear. At the same time as the theoretical research and the practical experienceof our city of the not mature, some government officials driven by economicinterests, have the severe political project consciousness for instant success. It isleading to landscape architect’s very short design cycle, the lack of systematicexcavations and consolidation of vernacular landscape elements of local, or evencopying and similar landscape meet the eye everywhere.In this paper, aiming at the above problems, we conduct in-depth research onthe Suide area of the natural environment and historical culture and customs.Through on-the-spot investigation, research and analysis, summary, practicedemonstration method, in order to protect the local landscape and heritage as astarting point, it mainly explores how to reasonably and effectively protect, developand use of vernacular landscape elements, and to explore the methods of the locallandscape design. Firstly, this paper gives the definition of “vernacular landscape”and “vernacular landscape design”, thus the understanding about these two conceptsis proposed. At the same time, the related theory is also discussed, researching and learning theory and practice of domestic vernacular landscape design. Under theguidance of theory and practice in the above, elements of vernacular landscapedesign and principles of the design are summarized. Then, it studies and summarizesthe methods of design, including the building of local landscape artistic conception,the use of the local characteristics, local materials and technology and native plants.Then the local landscape elements in Suide area are summarized, and the vernacularlandscape status, protection of native landscape and inheritance significance wasanalyzed. Through the analysis of the Suide loess customs garden stone soul squarelandscape design practice case, it gives out the final conclusion of the paper.Vernacular landscape design is a process, through mining vernacular landscapeelements, creating these local landscape artistic conception, learning from the localcharacteristics, applying local experience to design.
