Since the first motorcycle was born, the motorcycle industry has been booming developed. However the rapid development of the traditional motorcycle industry has also brought environmental issues such as pollution and energy consumption. In recent years, affected by the country’s macroeconomic regulation and control, the traditional motorcycle industry is more sluggish, but the development of other electric motorcycle industry is extremely fast. Electric motorcycle is loved by consumers because of its low noise, high efficiency, low environmental pollution, simple structure and low cost. But limited by traditional electric motorcycle battery capacity, mileage of electric motorcycle is short, and the battery life is not long.According to the shortcomings of short mileage of electric motorcycle, extended electric motorcycle adds a machine to increase mileage, by way of using in-vehicle charging. The electric motorcycle is equipped with that machine becomes the extended-electric-motorcycle, which is equipped a pure electric vehicle charging and ground power supply function of the electric drive motorcycle. Extended electric motorcycle consists of drive systems, battery management systems, vehicle power charging system and vehicle control system. Compared with traditional electric motorcycles, extended-electric-motorcycle not only increases the mileage, but also the required battery capacity is not only lower than that of an ordinary electric scooter, power shortage anchoring phenomenon will not occur.As the core of the extended-electric-motorcycle, battery management system enables voltage detection, current sensing, temperature sensing, SOC calculation, the battery overcharge protection, under-voltage protection, high current protection, high temperature alarm and other functions. The function modules of the battery management system designed in this paper mainly consists of: motor drive module, the current detection module, a voltage detection module, the current protection module, communication module alarming indication module and displaying module, and so on. When the battery management system processing results show that the battery is low, the ISG motor vehicle controller sends control signals to control the ISG rotation, start the engine; After the engine starts, driven by the engine crankshaft rotation of the rotor, three-phase alternating current generated by the motor at this time through the ISG after the rectifier to charge the battery; battery management system determines if the battery is fully charged. If it was true, the controller sends a control signal to the vehicle, the engine ignition control signal is off, the engine is stopped.In hardware design, the system uses Microchip’s16-bit MCU as the main controller,8-bit MCU as a sub-controller chip, Allegro’s ACS750as current sensing chip as well as other high-performance components to develop the battery management system of extend-electric-motorcycle.In software design, the system designed the main program flow chart of the main controller and sub-controller and the flow chart of the main module. This paper conducted several experiments about the extended-electric-motorcycle battery management system and analysis the data from the laboratory. The results show that the design of the battery management system, can achieve a good battery management system voltage detection, current sensing, temperature sensing, SOC calculation, the battery overcharge protection, under-voltage protection, high current protection, high temperature alarm function, meet the design requirements..
