China is experiencing the rapid development of high-speed railway construction. Until2013, China owns the longest high-speed operation mileage and construction scale in the world. With the rapid growth of passengers, high-speed railway gradually develops to the mountain areas. Because of the terrain and geological conditions, mountainous high speed railway often comes in forms of bridges and tunnels. The tunnels are long and narrow buildings, which if disasters (mainly fire disasters) strike the tunnels, considering the characteristic, it’s really to rescue, and the consequence is unpredictable. So fire disasters in tunnels should become a key link in the disaster prevention and rescue of high-speed railway tunnels. In tunnel fires, the cross passage spacing has extremely importance to rescue. Reasonable cross passage spacing can prevent people from the threats of toxic and high-temperature gas.At home and abroad, the test and simulation of tunnel fires mainly focuses on the regularity of smoke flow, critical wind velocity and the temperature distribution., there is much less research on safety evacuation and rescue. Further more, the research are about ordinary passenger and freight trains, and has less reference significance for the high-speed railway. In this paper, through the simplified calculation model, the most unfavorite situation for the bullet train passengers’ evacuation is ensured, and the required safe egress time (RSET) about different cross passage spacing is given. Then using analytic hierarchy process (AHP) in consideration of economic efficiency, timeliness, and engineering maneuverability, evaluate different cross passage spacing, and finally give the recommended values for cross passage spacing in mountainous high speed railway. At the same time, analyze tunnel disasters in the world, sum up experience, draw the lesson. In the end, give recommendations for other disaster prevention and rescue facilities, also advice for train crew training, to provide reference for the mountainous high speed railway rescue facilities setting in the future.
