During the process of boundary friction there is the thermal behavior of friction heat generation and heat conduction. While the temperature of the boundary film rise, its lubricating properties will change as well. By the combined method of numerical analysis and experiment, this paper did research to the change of the temperature field during the process of on pin disk friction.Firstly, based on the principles of tribology and heat conduction, heat conduction differential equation and temperature iterative formula of the Pin on disk friction model were derived. Using corresponding iterative method, the simulation programs of the pin on disc friction system’s steady-state temperature field and transient temperature field, under the condition of varying friction coefficient, was written.Secondly, in order to verify the correctness of the simulation program, a pin on disc friction tester was developed. The tester can make the pin sample and disk sample rubbing at a certain load and rotational speed, under the effect of certain lubricating oil. At the same time, a set of real-time data acquisition system can measure and store the data of friction coefficient and friction surface’s temperature. Finally, both friction experiments and simulations under several friction conditions were conducted. Comparing the results of the two, the reliability of the simulation program could be evaluated. The simulation results and experimental results show that the simulation programs can simulate the system steady-state temperature field and transient temperature field reasonably, and the simulation result was consistent with the experiment result, which indicates that the simulation programs has certain reliability.
