During the study of tribology, friction wear testing machine data acquisition system is an essential tool. However, for most domestic friction-wear testing machine, the data acquisition is accomplished by analog recorder or manual reading, which obviously resulted in inaccuracy and desynchrony of the information acquisition. In addition, a large amount of data should be processed in the data acquisition; therefore, it is very difficult to accomplish the measurement by artificial procedure alone. It is inconvenient for traditional measuring instrument with function module of hardware or inflexible software. For the purpose of achieving accurate acquisition, timely analysis and visual display on the parameters information during the friction-wear testing, it is essential to design a novel friction-wear testing machine data acquisition system.This study designed friction-wear testing machine data acquisition system based on virtual instrument LabVIEW, so as to solve the problems, such as inaccuracy and desynchrony existing in the data acquisition system. The structure design of hardware was developed with UG. Hardware of this data acquisition system mainly consists of friction-wear testing machine utilized as providing signals, selection of sensors that used as acquiring information of testing material, as well as signal conditioning module and data acquisition card. In addition, the component reasonable placement should be finished. Utilizing the LabVIEW, data processing-displaying software was programmed. This part mainly included login interface, signal acquisition interface and history information query interface. The optimization of layout for gathering function button, signal curve display window and data acquisition indicating information belongs to design of front panel, while the achievement of function for signal acquiring, signal analyzing and processing belongs to programming of rear panel. Finally, debugging for the whole system was finished.The developed system can accurately acquire the demand information when operating the friction-wear testing machine, also intuitively display these obtained information in real-time. Therefore, the designed data acquisition system obviously satisfies the demand of precisely acquiring information related to friction-wear testing of experimental materials and provides data support for further analysis, exhibiting a certain practical application value.
