With its exclusive advantage of low-cost, low energy-consuming, massive capacity and high efficiency as a public transportation, Bus rapid transit(BRT) has been widely applied in worldwide. The increase of BRT line and buses, however, as well as the increasing passenger capacity might lead to a more frequent interference in the BRT system, which increases the delay of BRT station subsequently. The BRT station delay has a significant effect on expediting operation speed and stability of a station, which makes it an important indicator of system service level assessing. How to reduce the BRT station delay during the peak hour is of great significance to ensure the BRT system has enough capacity, which is also crucial to the raise of BRT attraction and the realization of the low-carbon transportation in cities. Therefore, this paper studies the BRT station delay in the aspects as follows:Firstly, this thesis introduces the definition of BRT system and the differences between BRT stations and the regular ones. In addition, it also proposes what is and what factors influences BRT station delay.Secondly, this thesis conducts a specific analysis of factors of BRT station delay. Such factors as forms of platforms, forms of road right and vehicle types influence station delay through affecting the station capacity, as well as the saturation that influence station delay through affecting arrival rates.Thirdly, this thesis establishes a target function based on optimum efficiency for BRT stations. By analyzing the relationship between saturation, capacity and delay of a BRT station, we can have the curves under different saturations, which makes the relation between the capacity and delay of a BRT station quite clear.Fourthly, based on the typical stations of Guangzhou BRT system, the thesis introduces the queuing theory to determine the parameters related to the model of station delay. Under the condition of fixed arrival rates, the thesis analyzes the single-berth and multiple-berth of station delay respectively, with indexes of the queuing time, the number of queuing vehicles, overall average number of vehicles and time span of vehicles passing by. Then test and verify the result with VISSIM.Finally, based on the research mentioned above as well as practical applications of BRT in China, this thesis puts forward the targeted optimizing strategy towards station delay from aspects of improving traffic capacity of single berth and reducing arrival rates.
