Brake system is a key technology to guarantee the operation safety of EMU. With the development of high-speed railway, higher reliability of air brake system is required. It is important to study and analyse brake system through numerical simulation. Numerical simulation can not only simulate the performance parameters under various conditions, but also analyse and evaluate the whole system.Air brake system of EMU is stydied in this paper. With the development of domestic and international EMU’s air brake system, this paper selects air brake system of CRH3as a basic to study; the air brake system includes one set of direct.electro-pneumatic brake system by microcomputer and the other set of automatic air brake system. Firstly, the structure, function and control principle of brake syetem are summarized in this paper. Then, relevant parameters and control strategies are analysed in detail. This paper models the key components of direct electro-pneumatic brake system and emergency brake system baesd on AMESim. Thereinto, direct electro-pneumatic brake system includes a pneumatic brake control unit and an electronic brake control unit. For pneumatic brake control unit, some components, such as electro-pneumatic valve, relay valve, empty-load valve and double check valve, are modeled and analysed. For electronic brake control unit, instruction control unit, central control unit, brake control unit and traction control unit are modeled. Distribution valve, which is the key component of emergency brake system, is modeled and analysed.Next, based on the components’ models of air brake system, the complete models of direct electro-pneumatic brake system and emergency brake system are built, and through the analyses of simulations’ results, the accuracy of the model has been verified. Thereinto, the analyses of direct electro-pneumatic brake system contain two working conditions; the analyses of emergency brake system contain changing rules of brake pipe’s and air reservoirs pressures. Finally, with the model of air brake system, the brake performance is studied and analysed, includes the comparison of three control projects, the optimization of air brake valves and the speed limitation.
