Urban rail transport is the large capacity, fast, safe and punctual.The countries iswidely recognized that it is necessary to develop rail transportation as the backbone ofurban public transport systems.in otder to solve the city’s traffic problems. In recent years,China’s urban rail transit construction has entered a phase of great development, not onlyin Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other cities have subway opened, many ofthe city’s subway projects are under construction nervously. However, many attentionsare payed on the construction speed not on the planning. Urban rail transportinfrastructure of the city as a large, expensive construction project is irreversible, makingurban rapid rail transit network planning; a very important question is determinningnetwork scale according to the city’s status and development plan, urban transportationneeds, level of economic development of the city reasonably. A reasonable scale rapid railtransit network, not only can fully meet the needs of growing urban traffic, but alsoachieved with a less investment money. How to determine a reasonable size with a wiremesh research is very important.In this paper, considering the theories and methods from a lot of literature,development model based on this established Changchun rail transportation andfunctional positioning according to analyzing the development status and future urbanand transport planning. Factors affecting the urban rail transit network scale in-depthqualitative analysis, with reference to a number of domestic and urban rapid rail transitnetwork construction and the use of targets, combined with the actual situation inChangchun City, from the basis of the Survey data analysis, combined Changchun futureurban development planning, residents travel totals, bus travel, spatial distribution werepredicted. Conducted from the coverage and level of service the city’s total traffic traveland transportation structures and quantitative analysis of wire mesh according to trafficdemand projections are reasonable proportion of the size of all travel modes according tocity population size, strength and mass transit travel forecast urban rail traffic demand,and then draw rail transit network load strength at home and abroad in other cities, todetermine the length of the cable network.
