The auto-body layout design is the most important process of auto-mobiledevelopment, the ability and efficiency of auto packaging design is the reflection ofauto product design level. Therefore, it is important to focus on how to improve thequality and efficiency of auto packaging design.There are mainly two factors thataffect the auto packaging design: tools and methods.This paper summarized theauto-body packaging tools based on percentile recommended by the SAE, autopackaging contents and packaging methods.Based on CATIA V5software, supportedby Visual Basic6.0software, this paper has developed an auto-body Conceptuallayout system, which synthesizes the human digital model and auto-body packagingtools.The intellectual layout system could also be used to analyze auto ergonomicperformances easily.This paper presents the design idea and methods of the system, introduces theselection of CATIA secondary development method, summaries the fuctions of eachsystem module. At last, several couples of vehicle data were used to check theaccuracy of the rear view mirrors design module, and the result shows that the systemcan adjust the mirrors to the best rotation angle to make sure the drivers can get thebest visual field. The characteristics of the system are summarized as follows: it usesthe standard VB interfaces which is convenient for clients, and it will improve thesoftware’s professionalization and integtation which is helpful to improve the qualityand efficiency of product design.At present, ergonomics is the research hotspot of auto-mobile packaging.Onlywhen considers auto-mobile ergonomic factors in the conceptual design stage, can wedevelop a product which is conveniently manipulated, safe and reliable, good-looking and comfortable.Many foreign countries study the auto mobile ergonomics actively,and have already issued many criterions, such as SAE, EEC and so on. Also, theyhave developed various kinds of ergonomic analysis and design software systems.However, there is no literature that studies the affect of auto-body packagingparameters on auto-mobile ergonomic performances to be referenced.The auto-body conceptual layout system described in this paper is based on theresearch of vehicle ergonomics which reflects the idea of “human-centered”,especially in the modules of passengers’ space arrangement, human-machineinterfaces arrangement and drivers’ ergonomic performances analysis. Based on theparametric function of the auto-body packaging system, using the datas of23vehicles,this paper builds each type’s inner layout environment, and then measures the driver’sergonomic performance parameters such as the driver’s front and rear view, dynamicview and driving postures. After that, calculate the correlation between theseauto-body packaging parameters and ergonomic performance parameters and analyzethe variation tendency of the mobile ergonomic factors according to the scatterdiagrams. The conclusions will be helpful and significant for auto-body layout designin the future.
