Summer palace, the best preserved and the most famous royal garden is an immortalmasterpiece in the history of Chinese landscape architecture. It plays the art of plantarrangement of Chinese landscape architecture to an extreme, thus the study of it not onlyprovides a survey data for the Summer Palace’s plant, but also provide a reliable basis for thehistorical landscape protection,restoration,reconstruction for the protection of the Chineseclassical gardens.The paper makes a summary of all findings on four aspects according to thefield work on Wanshou Hill: plant species, distribution of plant communities, structure of plantcommunities, distribution of ancient trees. At the same time, do a analysis of plant arrangementof Wanshou Hill from few aspects, based on the common plant species, the idea of arrangement,the design method, artistic conception, characteristics employed by Chinese royal garden andother relative theoretical subjects: plant species,the cultural features embodied by plantarrangement, the match of plant and other landscape factors, artistic conception, ecologicalfeatures. And make further a conclusion of the common plant species, the idea of arrangement,methods, artistic conception, characteristics employed by Chinese royal garden,which offer atheoretical foundation for modern landscape.At last, the thesis discussed issues lists as follow:protection of plants, inheritance and development of plants, innovation of plant arrangementproduced after the role shift of summer palace from royal garden to city park.
