Although the discoveries of historical sources and the previous studies on the Garden of Clear Ripples or Summer Palaceare currently are very rich and broad, there are still many issues deserving studying deeply, such as research on the original environment before the construction of this garden, the process of overall planning and construction of it, local landscape architecture design, topographical design, rockery and vegetation design, etc.Of course there are still many restrictive conditions in this research, such as the vague details of the ancient literature, the lack of ancient maps of sites, rockery and plant design, the disorder of the style of the existing landscape and the concept between the Garden of Clear Ripples and Yihe Garden caused by multiple catastrophes, etc.In this connection, the thesis closely integrates historical records and the latest archaeological excavation, pays attention to the field mapping of the landscape site, rockery and vegetation, uses a wide range of materials as circumstantial evidence, investigates the Summer Palace from the background of the big times and conducts in-depth research on a broad basis. Then the paper respectively analyses the original environments before the construction of the Garden of Clear Ripples, the formation of its landscape pattern and several important attractions existing in the summer palace, such as Qingke Xuan, Xieqiu Xuan and Yunhui Temple. Accordingly, the paper focuses on the study of landscape art for the well preserved garden, and focuses on the study of rehabilitation for the damaged Garden. Compared with the studies of ancient architecture of the selected scenic spots, this paper focuses on the tight combination of landscape architecture and the terrain and the artistic conception of landscape architecture.Based on the former research, the following study clarifies the broad outline of the West Lake and the surrounding human landscape before Qianlong built the Garden of Clear Ripples, concludes that the Kunming Lake is not built in 1750, but after a lapse of one year just pouring the water into the lake, and then, explores the reconstruction process of the lake by means of relevant historical literature and archaeological excavations. Subsequently, the thesis carries on an in-depth research to the combination between the architecture and cliff of Qingke Xuan through a series of site surveys, mapping and archaeological excavations. The author maps the rockery of Qingke Xuan and Yunhui Temple in detail, including the information of the mountain area, range, altitude, horizontal and vertical planes contour, concave-convex, arrangement and combination of the rockery, by means of digital 2D drawing and 3D model. Then the article carries on a series of systematic analysis of the role of the rockery in the environment and its knack for designing basing on the former research. In the mean time, combining the mapping of garden vegetation and the historical literature, the article puts forward the corresponding solution strategy and feasibility analysis for the issue of inconsistence between the space, artistic conception and historical records.A full understanding of these aspects, combining with landscape architecture, culture, garden history etc, is beneficial to further comprehend the design ideas and techniques of the Royal Garden of Qing Dynasty, and more comprehensively and systematically to explain and draw its wisdom of landscape planning and design, meanwhile, lay the foundation for part of the landscape architecture restoration, ultimately provide references for modern landscape architecture design with Chinese characteristics in the future.
