Research On Conservation And Presentation Of The Sites In Longevity Hill Of Summer Palace

At the early construction of Qing-yi Garden,the north of Longevity hill had many Buddhist temple buildings and garden-in-gardens,which later formed sites due to historical changes.In order to clarify the composition and current situation,excavate the value,explore applicable and reasonable ideas for the conservation and presentation,truly and completely interpret and convey the value of the sites on the Longevity hill of the Summer Palace,the study uses the methods that filed survey combined with document analysis,from the whole to single and system to elements.Through the analysis of documents and archives,the Longevity hill garden in garden sites’ historical evolution and the reasons for formation,location selection and environment,layout and creative ideas,garden activities,garden culture,tour routes,historical plants and so on were clarified.Based on the five values of history,art,science,culture and society,the value evaluation system of the Summer Palace site was established.It was proposed that the value lies in the Longevity hill sites is not only reflect the garden creation artistic conception,spiritual and cultural pursuit of the Emperor Qianlong,but also witness the important history event of the invasion of China by the British and French forces.Through field surveys and questionnaire surveys,the problems are summarized that the sites and its environment to be conservaed,the value of the site to be further excavated,the presentation content to be enriched,the presentation methods to be supplemented,and the public’s awareness for sites to be popularized.Through the case analysis of domestic and foreign site conservation and presentation,the experience for the site conservation and presentation is summarized that conservation objects should be clear and valuable,follow the conservation principle of identifiable and use multiple presentation methods to presentation garden elements and environment.Based on the value evaluation and current situation evaluation of Longevity hill sites,combined with the experience of site conservation and presentation,and under the guidance of the charter and regulations,the overall idea for the conservation and presentation of Longevity hill sites in the Summer Palace is put forward that under the premise of ensuring authenticity and integrity,consideing the characteristics of the site,the site and its environment should be repaired,the value of the garden site should be truly,completely and accurately presented in a variety of reasonable methods,and public awareness should be promoted.The conservation principles and measures,the presentation goals and principles,and the presentation contents and methods of the overall and single garden sites are elaborated in detail.Finally,taking the case study of the conservation and presentation of the Summer Palace sites which were systemic in recent years as an example,and referring to the work flow and system for the conservation and presentation of historical sites in Japan,a work operation guide which has universal value for the conservation and presentation of Qing dynasty imperial garden site is proposed.
