Lateral displacement is one of the main causes leading to many common problems in curved girder bridge, such as pier shaft cracking; bearing disjoint; overturning of the beam; deformation of the seismic anchor bolt; seismic stopper cracking. It not only exists commonly but also has great harm on bridges. However, effective measures to avoid lateral displacement of curved bridges have not been put forward so far.The research and analysis of this thesis focused on the lateral displacement of curved bridge. Its main contents and conclusions are listed below:(1) A set of methods to model curved bridges were proposed based on3D finite element software MIDAS/Civil. After verifying its validity, it was applied to subsequent analysis.(2) The preliminary research on mechanical properties and the generation of lateral displacement of curved girder bridge was conducted with numerical simulation, mechanical analysis and mathematical deduction.The mechanical characteristics of curved girder bridge was summarized and calculation formula of lateral displacement was deducted. Additionally, according to the analysis of the mechanism and process of lateral displacement generation, the main factors influencing lateral displacement were found.(3) Based on a practical project, a suitable model was established with the finite element software.With related theory, the project and the model were compared and the analysis was conducted. The main factors affecting lateral displacement were investigated. The influence law of each factor was summarized.(4) Based on the conclusion obtained, corresponding measures to prevent lateral displacement were proposed. The validity and feasibility of each method were verified with numerical simulation, mechanical analysis and mathematical deduction.Research results of this paper can provide a reference for further research on mechanical properties of curved girder bridge with complex boundary conditions and the design of it.Moreover, solving the problem of the lateral displacement of curved bridge, will effectively improve the disadvantages of curved girder bridge,resulting in promotion in structure safety and its service life and reduction of maintenance cost.
