The reinforcement of existing building is a hot research field in the construction industry. A large number of industrial and civil buildings had been constructed since1980s in China. These buildings now have been working for more than20years. Due to the limited technology and traditional materials at that time, many of those building faces some structural problems. Recently, the updating of national specifications and the change of use function of the buildings make many buildings not suitable for living. Those building need Reinforcement and reconstruction. However, many current design of the reinforcement and reconstruction often aim at the low bearing capacity of single member, ignoring the analysis on the overall structure of the original structure, so that the reinforcement scheme is unreasonable and economic.Based on one reinforced concrete building’s reinforcement and strengthening, this paper makes a study on the reinforcement method and design. The main contents are list as follows:(1) Summarizing the current strengthening technology transformation, and the calculating principle of various reinforcement methods and scope of application.(2) Comparing and analyzing several reinforcement methods, the paper puts forward a best reasonable and economic reinforcement method, using the original structural elements, and establishes steel-RC (truss roof) composite structure.(3) Making analysis of the structure before and after reinforcement, analyzing the redistribution of internal force, and makes a reinforcement construction design.(4) Making an dynamic time history analysis of the structure before and after reinforcement.(5) Introducing the reinforcement construction and monitoring scheme and looking forward to the research in the future.The results of this study show that the structure reinforcement design of composite structure establishing steel-RC (truss roof) composite structure can make full use of original structural members, combining with the strengthening of individual elements and whole structure. It proves that this design method is reasonable and economic, and the construction process is simple, practicable and safe.
