With the development of economy and the improvement of people’s life, the current traffic construction can’t satisfy people’s growing traffic demand. As a result, the traffic flow theory research emerges as time requires. The goal of traffic flow theory research is to set up the traffic flow models which can describe the general traffic characteristics through observation of the actual traffic. Thus we can use these models to guide traffic planning, design, control and management. The vehicle following experiment is one of the very effective method to gain traffic data. To set up the traffic models to describe the general traffic characteristics through analyzing car following data and observing traffic phenomenon, is the goal of traffic flow theory research. In this paper, we use car-following model to simulate vehicle dynamic features. The contents of the paper are as follows:1. Analyzing the data of a team composed of25car following experiment, then compared with the simulation results of traditional car-following models (OVM, FVDM, GFM, GM) according to the experiment conditions, By contrast, we found that the traditional car following model in the performance of simulation results is not very good. Under the condition of certain parameters, we can get the vehicle speed oscillation phenomenon and the stop-and-go phenomena. This may be related to the sensitive coefficient of traditional car following model and the choice of optimal speed function. While in the real traffic, the driver is not only influenced by the vehicles ahead, the road conditions, weather conditions, traffic noise, and the driver’s personality traits (such as age, gender, driving habits, etc.) will have an effect on the driver’s driving behavior.2. We study the traffic flow dynamic characteristics of the manual shift vehicles in the car-following regime. There are both automatic transmission vehicles (AT) and manual transmission vehicles (MT) in the experiment, by analyzing the experimental data, we found that manual transmission vehicles are different with automatic transmission vehicles, since the shift takes time and the vehicles lose the power during the shift process. This paper presents a modified full velocity difference car-following model for MT vehicles, taking the shift process into account. We have studied the traffic flow stability of MT vehicles, and we found the speed of the MT vehicles will fluctuate in a smaller range (in this article is about10km/h to about20km/h) after starting. And this smaller range is defined as state A. The bigger range (in this article is0to50km/h) is defined as state B. Then we simulate the space-time diagram, the traffic flow and evolution of the gear of the vehicle in states A and B. Finally, we consider the impact of traffic noise, through simulation we found that the traffic noise weaken the influence of shift process for speed.
