With the development of the economic and people’s living, the demand for cars is also growing. The increase of energy crisis and environment pollution problems are worsening, the key to resolve this is to develop the EV, especially for China, which has a large number people but per capita resources are relatively poor, so the development of the EV is important. Now many countries are spending much resources to carry out the EV research, which is very promising in the future. In EV, the motor drive system is not only related to the vehicle’s safety and reliability, but also determined the dynamic performance. In the article, we chose the permanent magnet synchronous motor to study the following work, which has a high energy density, efficiency, and torque.The development status of EV was introduced in the article, the motor vehicle and the drive system were compared, the paste-type permanent magnet synchronous motor was concluded as the research object. Then the mathematical model in the two-phase rotating coordinate system was deduced. Based on these theories, the principles of PMSM vector control, including space vector pulse width modulation(SVPWM) and four main vector control methods, and the theory of variable structure control, and the PMSM vector control sliding mode controller designation were introduced. In MATLAB platform, respectively, two PMSM based on PI controller and a sliding mode controller vector control system simulation models were built, the results show that the model based on the sliding mode variable structure controller has fast response speed and super overshoot. Finally, the hardware and the software of the PMSM vector control system were designed. The hardware circuit includes the main control circuit, the drive circuit, the control circuit and the sampling circuit, the software includes the main program block diagram and the interrupt block diagram. Based on these, the experiment was carried out, and the results show that the PMSM vector control system based on the DSP TMS320F2812is correct and feasible.
