Plant diseases can be divided into non-infectious diseases and infectious diseasesaccording to their pathogens. Infectious diseases of plants are caused by fungi, bacteria, viruses, virus, parasitic seed plants, nematodes, actinomycetes, mycoplasma and so on. Plant disease ofornamental plants are mostly caused by fungi. Growers of ornamental plants often haveproblems with fungal disease which occur on leaves, stems, roots and other parts, causing leafspots, leaf blight, root rot or other disease. Some pathogens are serious enough to cause largeareas of leaf blight or death of entire plants. The diseases caused by fungi will affect theeconomic and aesthetic value of ornamental plants and their products. The purpose of thisstudy is to survey the foliar disease of common ornamental plants in Yunnan Province throughdiversity surveys and phylogenetic analysis, to determine the biodiversity of the pathogenicfungi, report new fungi diseases and preserve the dry specimens as herbarium material andobtain pure cultures of the pathogens. The findings can be used for follow-up research such aspathogenic fungi diagnosis, prevention, plant quarantine and fungal secondary metabolites, soas to improve the economic and aesthetic value of the ornamental plants and their products inYunnan.Specimens were collected from Kunming Botanical Garden, Qiongzhu temple, Southwestforestry University, Chenggong, Zixi mountain, Shuangbai, Mengla, Menglun. Identification ofpathogenic fungi were combined with morphological and phylogenetic characters to determinethe fungal pathogens. The main findings of this study are as follows:In this study,150specimens were collected,50herbarium specimens and37pure cultureswere preserved, and23pathogens were identified. Seven species of Colletotrichum (C. cliviae,C. boninense,C. falcatum,C. cf. gloeosporioides,C. cf. fructicola sp.1,C. cf. fructicola sp.2,C. cf. boninense), eleven species of Pestalotiopsis (P. trachicarpicola Y. M. Zhang&K.D.Hyde, sp. nov., P. karstenii, P. cf. bicolor,P. cf. clavispora,P. cf. disseminata, Pestalotiosis sp. and Seridum sp.); Alternaria tenuissima, and Phyllachora sp, Fusicoccum sp. and Phyllostictasp..Detailed records and descriptions of characters, culture morphology and diseasesymptoms are presented. The study combined single-gene or multi-gene analysis to confirmidentifications. The results show that pathogenic fungi on ornamental plants of Yunnan Province arediverse, but most of them belong in the genera Colletotrichum and Pestalotiopsis. Ornamentalplants in Yunnan are various and climate in different places changes a lot, there are much morenew pathogenic fungi waiting to be found, the diversity of pathogenic fungi and floracharacters need further in-depth discussion.
