Cyclocarya paliurus is a monotypic genus and endangered species under protection in China.Triterpenoids, one type of secondary metabolites in C. paliurus, are of huge potential value indevelopment and utilization because of their function in medicine, health care, timber andornamental. Moreover, triterpenoids have the functions of bioactivity in hypoglycemic, reducingblood lipid, anti-tumor, preventing and treating cardio-cerebrovascular disorders, enhancinghuman immunity. It is of great significance to isolate and purify the triterpenoids in the leaves ofC. paliurus. Here we use split-split plot design with the C. paliurus seedlings of three provenances(Wufeng, Yuanling, Muchuan) and three types of light conditions (full,50%,15%) to comparethe growth properties and the triterpenoid contents in the leaves of C. paliurus seedlings underdiffenrent treatments. The main conclusions are as follows:(1) Variation in growth properties in C. paliurus seedlings of different treatments all reachedthe significant level. The best treatments were A1B3(full sunlight+Muchuan provenance) andA2B2(50%sunlight+Yuanling provenance), the seedling height growths were241.2cm and193.0cm, respectively. The seedling ground diameter growths were2.33cm and3.00cm,respectively.(2) Variation in triterpenoid content in the leaves of C. paliurus seedlings of differenttreatments and the same treatment in different months all reached the significant level. InSeptember we can obtain the highest content of triterpenoids in the leaves of C. paliurusseedlings. Treatment of the highest content of total triterpenoids was A1B2(49.37mg·g-1), whilearjunolic acid was A2B2(5.96mg·g-1), cyclocarioside I was A1B3(3.67mg·g-1).(3) Variation in triterpenoid accumulation in the leaves of C. paliurus seedlings per plant ofdifferent treatments reached the significant level. The treatment of the highest production(October) of total triterpenoids and cyclocarioside I in the leaves of C. paliurus seedlings wasA1B3, which reached2.91g/per plant and208.5mg/per plant, respectively. While arjunolic acidwas A2B2, reaching264.4mg/per plant.
