The experiment selected four healthy, with body weight of (57.3±5.6)kg, about2years old to install apermanent rumen fistula small tail han sheep ram, using2×2cross-over design, and were supplemented onthe pelletized and ground cornstalk diets with the ratio of concentrate to roughage (28:72).The rumenliquid was collected at0,1.5,3,5,7, and10h after feeding, and the digestion and metabolism experimentswere processing. To study of the effects of feeding the pelletized and ground cornstalk diets on thevoluntary intake and microbial flora in the rumen, digestion and metabolism of the rumen and whole bodyin sheep. The results showed that the voluntary intakes of dry matter of of two groups were1776.6and2381.5(P<0.01)g/(d·sheep) respectively, which were increased34.1%(P<0.01)compared with feedingthe ground cornstalk diets; the total VFA were93.01and84.92mmol/L respectively, which were reduced8.7%(P>0.05);the concentration of total NH3-N were26.48and23.42mg/100mL respectively, whichwere reduced11.6%(P>0.05);the total number of rumen protozoa were9.25and8.33×105/mL(P<0.05)respectively, which were reduced10.0%(P<0.05);the total number of rumen bacteria were109.42and120.21×109/mL respectively, which were increased9.86%(P<0.01);the fungi copies were9.57and9.85×107copies/mL respectively, which were increased2.93%(P>0.05);but the total volume of rumenwere6.56and8.10L respectively, which were increased23.48%(P<0.01);and the turnover rate of rumenwere7.2and7.0%/h respectively, which were reduced2.78%(P>0.05).The apparent digestibility offeeding the pelletized of dry matter, organic matte, crude protein and cellulose were55.07%and59.07%,61.64%and57.03%respectively, which were reduced9.75%(P<0.01),7.9%(P<0.01)and10.68%(P<0.01),the apparent digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein and cellulose were64.82and55.34%,66.97and59.30%,65.64and62.30%,63.85and55.43%respectively, which werereduced9.48%(P<0.01),7.67%(P<0.01),3.34%(P<0.05),5.3%(P<0.05)respectively. but thedigestive volume of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein and cellulose were1197.5and1387.7,1088.8and1318.4,148.3and191.6,352. and415.1g/(d·sheep) respectively, which were increased15.88%(P<0.05),21.1%(P<0.01),29.2%(P<0.01)and17.83%(P<0.05)respectively. The nitrogen, calcium andphosphorus retention of the volume were11.05and13.42,4.75and5.22,1.65and1.84±0.13g/(d·sheep)respectively, which were increased21.45%(P<0.05),9.89%(P>0.05),11.52%(P>0.05). It isconcluded that the voluntary intake could be increased by feeding the pelletized and ground cornstalk diets, decreased the digestibility significantly, while it dramatically increased nutrient supply and the quantity of digestion of sheep. The total VFA and concentration of total NH3-N and the total number of rumen protozoawere reduced, and the total number of rumen bacteria were increased of feeding the pelletized and groundcornstalk diet. Because of the rumen fluid volume and turnover rate were increases, the total VFA andconcentration、total NH3-N、total number of rumen protozoa mybe increased; the effects of feeding thepelletized and ground cornstalk diets on the nitrogen were increased. Therefore, it is one of the effectiveway would significantly increased or improve the nutritional status of the sheep on feeding the pelletizedand ground cornstalk diets.
