Considerable amount of nucleic acids are produced in ruminants. These animals therefore must have efficient metabolic pathway to oxdize and eliminate the purines included in the nucleic acids, especially convert the relatively insoluble uric acid with the catalyzing of uricase into more soluble allantoin, thus excreting in urine. Uricase activities of sika deer, rein deer and goat serum and red cell, freeze dried sika deer blood and the effect of deer blood products in the intestinal sac of chicken on the uric acid concentration of incubating medium were determined in the study. In experiment I,500,1000and1500μl of serum of sika deer, reindeer and goat were added into uric acid solution. Uric acid concentrations of the solutions were determined using ultraviolet spectrophotometer very hour. The results showed that the concentration of uric acid remained constant in the solution added reindeer serum, declined to the lowest levels in those solution added sika deer and goat serum for1hour and thereafter. This indicated that there was no uricase activity in reindeer serum, high uricase activities in sika deer and goat serum. In the test of red cell of sika deer and goat, there are uricase activities in the cells but significantly lower than in serum. This suggested that the uricase exists mainly in serum of sika and goat.In experiment II, uricase activity in freeze dried sika deer blood powder were tested with the concern that deer blood is usually processed into dry powder for use, while heating can inactivate uricase. Collected sika deer blood was frozen in-20℃freezer and then freeze-dried. The freeze dried blood powder was re-hydrated and added into uric acid solution. Uricase activity was determined. The results showed that uricase activity was detected in the freeze dried blood powder but significantly lower than fresh serum. In experiment II, dried sika deer blood powder, serum and red cells were sealed in isolated chicken intestinal sac which was incubated in uric acid solution. The uric acid concentration outside of the intestinal sac was determined every hour to see if the concentration was reduced and the possibility of reducing blood uric acid level by oral administration of deer blood product. And the results indicated that the uric acid concentration was significantly reduced by the treatments. The findings of the study suggests that there is possibility to prepare sika deer and/or goat blood product for lowering blood uric acid levels in human.
