The eggplant(Solanum melongena L.)is native to the North of India, China is thesecondary distribution center. Eggplant is widely cultivated in China, the cultivationhistory of Chinese is more than thousand years.The eggplant verticillium wilt, known as "cancer" in eggplant diseases, is a kind ofsoil borne disease worldwide. The pathogen of verticillium wilt in eggplant is V.dahliaeKleb, V.albo-atrum Reinke et Berth and V.nigrescens Pethyhr based on the present studies.The verticillium is great threat for eggplant production because of high incidence anddifficult to cure. The control effect is not very ideal to prevent and cure the verticilliumwilt in eggplant by the commonly control method such as grafting and chemical drugs.The breeding of resistant varieties is the effective way to prevent the verticillium wilt ineggplant. As lack of effectively available resistance resources, it’s the key for resistancebreeding to screen the resistance germplasm. In this study the pathogens of verticilliumwilt in eggplant from different production areas in Hebei province was isolated andidentified. Furthermore, the distributions and types of eggplant verticillium wilt in hebeiprovince will be studied and the resistance will be screened in eggplant germplasm. Thisthesis consists of isolation of verticillium wilt, identification of verticillium wilt, andscreening of verticillium wilt resistant germplasm resources in eggplant. We aim toprovide the scientific theory and practical experience. The main results are listed asfollows:1. The main pathogen of the eggplant verticillium wilt in hebei province is V.dahliaeKleb, with hyphal type and sclerotium type in colony morphology.2. The differentiation in physiological races of pathogen in eggplant verticillium wiltwas not found in Hebei province, only small kind of differentiation in pathogenicity wasobserved.3. It can be more effective to identify pathogenicity and screen the eggplant resistantgermplasm in the selection pressure of1x107units through inoculation by soaking roots.4. Through pathogenicity identification, three bacterial races with different levels ofvirulence (strong, middle and weak) were selected, namely GA, BS, HD, which can be used to screen resistance resources of eggplant verticillium wilt.5. Eleven resistant germplasm resources of eggplant verticillium wilt were selectedfrom54eggplant accessions, Dr13-2, Dr-3, Dr13-9, Dr13-10, Dr13-11, Dr13-17,Dr13-18,08-751,09-601,11-587and Solanum torvum Swartz. Dr13-18and Solanumtorvum Swartz were strong resistance to the BS, GA and HD. The rest of resistantresources had different levels in resistance to one or two strains, with resistance ortolerance.
