Apple industry is an important component of agricultural economy in China.Developing apple production has a very important meaning in improving people’sliving standards, increasing export earnings, and flourishing market economy in ruralareas. The cultivation area of apple in China is the largest in the world, about2130thousand ha, accounting for in the world. China has a natural advantage in thedevelopment of fruit industry. But the low yield of apple fruits hinders thedevelopment of apple industry.The effects of heights, diameters, internode length and the number of branches ofthe stocks on the heights, diameters, internode length, the number of branches, theshoot length, shoot growth rate, leaf’s area and growth rates of leaf of combination ofscion and rootstock were studied with apple trees in two orchards of Baoding HeJiaying and one orchsrd of Teng Jiazhuang. The stocks included SH40seeding stocks,SH38seeding stocks, P22, M9, M26and so on, onto which Red Fuji apple weregrafted. The characters of the stocks and the ring rot occurrence in apple trees werealso investigated. The results showed that:(1)Differences exsited among the characters of the stocks includeM9,M26,SH38,SH40and so on.(2)The height of annual SH38seeding stocks mainly ranged from90cm—120cm.The diameter of annual SH38seeding stocks mainly ranged from11mm—14mm.The height of annual SH40seeding stocks mainly ranged from100cm—140cm.The diameter of annual SH40seeding stocks mainly ranged from13mm—17mm.The height of annual P22seeding stocks mainly ranged from80cm—100cm. Thediameter of annual SH38seeding stocks mainly ranged from10mm—13mm.The height of annual JiGuan stocks mainly ranged from110cm—150cm. Thediameter of annual JiGuan stocks mainly ranged from12mm—16mm.(3)There is no significant correlation between the height of the stocks and theheight, the diameter, the length of shoots, the shoot growth rate, leaf area and leafgrowth rate of the combination of scion and rootstock.(4)There is no significant correlation between the diameter of the stocks and theshoot growth rate, leaf area and the leaf growth rate of the combination of scion and roots tock. Significant correlation was shown between the diameter of the stocks andthe height, the diameter and the shoot length of the combination of scion androotstock.(5)There is no significant correlation among the internode length of the stocksand the internode of the combination of scion and roots tock.(6)There is no significant correlation among the number of the branches of thestocks and the number of the branches of the combination of scion and roots tock.(7)With the resistance of stocks to ring rot enhancing, the resistance ofcombination of scion and roots tock to ring rot strengthened.
