Pseudococcus comstocki Kuwana is a common agricultural pest in China. The morphiccharacters, habitus, developmental durations, developmental threshold temperature, effectiveaccumulated tempeature of this insect were studied systematically in the paper. Meantime, the lifetable of the laboratory population fed on pumpkin was constructed at different temperatures(17,20,23,26,29℃). The toxicities of three types of insecticide to Pseudococcus comstocki Kuwanawere determined in the laboratory. The main results obtained were as follows:Nymph used to molt three times. This mealybug is engaged in parthenogernesis and sexualreproduction. The generation duration of Pseudococcus comstocki Kuwana decreased with thetemperature increasing from17℃to29℃. The longest generation durations of females and maleswere121.27d and89.64d at17℃, respectively, while the shortest were52.10d and36.01d at29℃, respectively, and the relationship between the development and temperature could besimulated by the Logistic model. The developmental threshold temperature and effectiveaccumulated temperature of females were8.69℃, and1020.9day-degree, and those of maleswere10.27℃and659.04day-degree, respectively. At26℃the survival rate and populationtrend index were the highest, being81.94%and322.27, respectively. The temperature of26℃was the most suitable for the population growth. While at17℃and29℃, the survival rates were64.85%and67.23%, and the population trend indexes were66.91and42.19, respectively. At32℃, growth retardation appeared in the1st instar nymphs. It is concluded that high and lowtemperatures are not suitable for the population growth of the Pseudococcus comstocki Kuwanaand high temperatures have stronger effects than low temperatures. The toxicitity of threeinsecticides to nymphs and adult female of Pseudococcus comstocki Kuwana was studied in thelaboratory. Chemieal control in the1st instar nymphs is suggested. Finally,40%methidathionE.C. has better control effect.
