Phoebe chekiangensis is famous, rare and endangered tree species and excellent native tree insouth China. Effects of different matrix formula,“3414” fertilizer application and root controltechnique on Phoebe chekiangensis were studied in this paper. Through the comprehensivecomparison on various growth indicators of seedlings, the optimum matrix formula, fertilizerpractice, root-control container and root-control reagent were screened out, aiming at providingtheoretical basis for realizing large-scale production of the Phoebe chekiangensis containerseedlings. The main results are as follows:Litter, drug waste, sawdust, pecan shells, and corn straw were coupled with and then mixedwith perlite and vermiculite to form10mixed matrixes of different proportions. The growthtargets of the different mixed matrixes were then analyzed by comparison with the commonlyused container seedling matrix (peat: vermiculite: perlite=3:1:1—the control). Results showedthat treatments3was the optimal matrix formula for Phoebe chekiangensis seedlings.Also,treatment1(Litter: drug waste:vermiculite:perlite=3:3:2:2) and treatment2(Litter: pecanshells:vermiculite:perlite=3:3:2:2) owed good performance on growth targets.Effects of different proportion of the nitrogen (N46%), phosphorus (P2O512%)and potassium(K2O60%) fertilizer application on Phoebe chekiangensis were studied in this paper basingon“3414” fertilizer application. The unitary quadric regression, equations binary quadric regressionequations and ternary quadric regression equations of quality index and different proportion ofthe nitrogen (N46%), phosphorus (P2O512%)and potassium (K2O60%) fertilizer application ofPhoebe chekiangensis container seedlings were analysed. Results showed that theory applicationrate of Phoebe chekiangensis container seedlings was that nitrogen for1.287kg·m-3, phosphorusfor0.304kg·m-3and potassic for0.793kg·m-3in3414plan.The three-year old seedlings of Phoebe chekiangensis were planted in the k-2control rootcontainers, root control bags and plastic basins including two types of D20cm×H20cm andD30cm×H30cm comparing on D20cm×H20cm plastic basins. The results show that k-2controlroot containers of D30cm×H30cm are the optimal containers for three-year old seedlings ofPhoebe chekiangensis. Because root control bags are cheaper and lighter and folded, they could beused to realize large-scale production of the Phoebe chekiangensis container seedling. Different concentration of CuSO4and ZnSO4was respectively mixed with emulsion varnishand than coated on the inner wall of root control bags comparing on the treatment which innerwall was coated on only emulsion varnish. The results show that200g·L-CuSO4preparation or200g·L-ZnSO4preparation is optimal root-control reagent for triennial Phoebe chekiangensistheand the higher concentration of CuSO4and ZnSO4, the greater the effect on plant root pruning andthe berrer seedling quality were in0~200g·L-range.In total, the root-control effect of CuSO4was superior to ZnSO4.
