In modern society, cages for laying hens with high density are accompanied by various health problems. The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of dietary taurine in laying hens.1The influence of different taurine levels on laying hens health (focus on serum, liver and kidney)In this study,4000green-shell laying hens (144day-old) were randomly assigned into4groups, the control group (C) was provided with the basic diet,3treatment groups were fed0.01%,0.1%and1%taurine diet respectively, they were separately named as W, Q and B groups. After7weeks in cages, serum, livers and kidneys were aseptically collected. Histologic changes, inflammatory mediator levels, oxidation and anti-oxidation levels, lipid parameters were analyzed. The statistics of survival rate, laying rate, daily consumption and daily gain showed:by comparison with the control group, the survival rate and laying rate were increased in W, Q and B groups, especially the Q group had changed markedly. Histologic observation showed that taurine at any level can ameliorate hepatic and renal structure. The activities of ALT and AST and the levels of SCr, BUN and UA in serum were reduced in Q and B groups. The levels of TNF-a, IL-1(3, IFN-y, IL-4and IL-10in livers and kidneys were decreased in treatment groups which added0.1%and1%taurine. In Q and B groups, the levels of TG, TC and LDL-C were decreased and the level of HDL-C was increased. There were less MDA content and higher SOD and T-AOC activities in Q and B groups. The data indicate that supplement with0.1%and1%taurine can raise the survival rate and laying rate, increase anti-oxidation levels, lessen lipid accumulation, reduced inflammatory mediator levels and protect the liver and kidney function. In consideration of all details,0.1%is the better level. 2The influence of0.1%taurine on laying hens (focus on serum and liver) in different rearing modesIn this study,15000green-shell laying hens (148day-old) were randomly assigned into a free range group, and2caged groups with low-density and high-density housing. Each group was further divided into the control (C) and taurine treatment (T) groups. All the test subjects were fed the same basic diet except that the T groups were supplemented with0.1%taurine. After15and90days, serum and liver were aseptically collected. Histologic changes, inflammatory mediator levels, oxidation and anti-oxidation levels and lipid parameters were analyzed. The statistics of survival rate, laying rate, daily consumption and daily gain showed:by comparison with free range group, the survival rate, laying rate and daily gain were increased in caged groups; compared with low-density group, there were lower laying rate and daily consumption in high-density group;0.1%taurine can increase survival rate and laying rate, decrease daily consumption and daily gain. Histologic observation showed the changes were obviously in high-density group; most hepatic structures were near normal; no histomorphological abnormality was found in free range group; dietary with0.1%taurine can protect hepatic structures. The activities of ALT and AST in caged groups were higher than free range group; in comparison C groups, the activities of ALT and AST were less in T groups. Relative to free range group, the inflammatory mediator levels were higher; there were lower inflammatory mediator levels in low-density group than high-density group;0.1%taurine can decrease the inflammatory mediator in livers. Detected the levels of TG, TC, LDL-C and HDL-C showed:in caged groups, the levels of TG, TC and LDL-C were increased, the concentration of HDL-C was decreased; there were elevation in the levels of TG, TC and LDL-C and reduction in the concentration of HDL-C in high-density group compared with low-density group; added0.1%taurine can raise the levels of TG, TC and LDL-C, bring down the concentration of HDL-C. The oxidation and anti-oxidation levels showed there were higher MDA levels and lower SOD and T-AOC activities in caged groups than free range group; relative to low-density group, the level of MDA was increased, the activities of SOD and T-AOC were decreased in high-density group; supplement with0.1%can inhibit the elevation in level of MDA and the reduction in activities of SOD and T-AOC.The data indicate that taurine can raise survival rate and laying rate, decrease daily consumption and daily gain; decrease oxidation levels, increase anti-oxidation levels and lessen lipid accumulation; decrease inflammatory mediator levels and protect the liver. In addition, free range housing and reduced cage density can also reduce oxidative stress; lessen fat accumulation and lower hepatic inflammatory mediator levels. Our data demonstrate that dietary0.1%taurine supplementation and reduced housing density offer significant protection for hepatic functions in laying hens.3The influence of0.1%taurine on laying hens (focus on kidney) in different rearing modesIn this study,15000green-shell laying hens (148day-old) were randomly assigned into a free range group, and2caged groups with low-density and high-density housing. Each group was further divided into the control (C) and taurine treatment (T) groups. All the test subjects were fed the same basic diet except that the T groups were supplemented with0.1%taurine. After15and90days, serum, kidneys were aseptically collected. Histologic observation showed that the changes were obviously in high-density group; most renal structures were near normal; no histomorphological abnormality was found in free range group; dietary with0.1%taurine can protect renal structures. The levels of SCr, BUN and UA in caged groups were higher than free range group; in comparison C groups, the levels of SCr, BUN and UA were less in T groups. Compared to free range group, the inflammatory mediator levels were higher; there were lower inflammatory mediator levels in low-density group than high-density group;0.1%taurine can decrease the inflammatory mediator in kidneys. There were higher MDA levels and lower SOD and T-AOC activities in caged groups than free range group; compared with low-density group, the level of MDA was increased, the activities of SOD and T-AOC were decreased in high-density group; supplement with0.1%can inhibit the elevation in level of MDA and the reduction in activities of SOD and T-AOC.The data indicate that taurine can increase anti-oxidation levels, decrease inflammatory mediator levels and protect the kidney normal ruction. At the meantime, free range housing and reduced cage density can also reduce oxidative stress; lower renal inflammatory mediator levels. Our data tesity that dietary0.1%taurine supplementation and reduced housing density can protect kidney from injury in laying hens and enhance health in laying hens. It is conjectured that supplement with0.1%taurine and reduced rearing density can improve the health of laying hens which lived in high-density cages.
