Objective:1.The aim of this study was to assess the association between endothelial nitric oxide synthase(eNOS) gene-786T/C and894G/T polymorphisms and myocardial infarction (MI) in Xinjiang Uygur andHan.2. Comparison of the-786T/C and894G/T gene polymorphisms of eNOS gene and whetherdifferences exist between Xinjiang Uygur and Han.Methods:1. We selected180MI patients and119controls from the Uygur population,144MI patients and140controls from the Han population, all of whom were in hospital in the cardiovascular department ofXinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region People’s Hospital from Jul.2011to Jul.2012.2. We Used the ABI7900HT fast real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR instrument to study-786T/C,894G/T genepolymorphisms of all583cases.3. We Used SPSS13.0statistical software package for statisticalprocessing, χ2test, t test, single factor analysis of variance, multivariate logistic regression analysis tocalculate relative risk and their95%confidence interval.Results:1. For the-786T/C polymorphism, there was no significant difference in the frequencies of thegenotypes between MI cases and controls in Uygur (P=0.667). There was no significant difference in thefrequencies of the alleles between MI cases and controls in Uygur (P=0.366). There was no significantdifference in the frequencies of the genotypes between MI cases and controls in Han (P=0.087). However,The C allele frequency was significantly higher in MI cases than that in controls in Han (P=0.029). Logisticregression analysis revealed that the risk of MI was2.135times higher in individuals carrying CC+CTgenotype than that in individuals carrying TT genotype (OR=2.135,95%CI=1.090~4.181, P=0.027). TheTC, CC genotype and C allele frequency of Uygur were significantly higher than those in Han(P=0.003andP=0.0005).2. For the894G/T polymorphism, there was no significant difference in the frequencies of thegenotypes between MI cases and controls in Uygur (P=0.628). There was no significant difference in thefrequencies of the alleles between MI cases and controls in Uygur (P=0.707). There was no significantdifference in the frequencies of the genotypes between MI cases and controls in Han (P=0.257). There wasno significant difference in the frequencies of the genotypes between MI cases and controls in Han(P=0.129). There was no significant difference in the frequencies of the genotypes and the alleles betweenUygur and Han (P=0.145and P=0.074).Conclusion:1.The eNOS gene may be associated with MI in Xinjiang Han, but not associated with MI inXinjiang Uygur. There was significant difference in the-786T/C polymorphism between Xinjiang Uygurand Han.2. The eNOS gene894G/T polymorphism may be not associated with MI in Xinjiang Uygur andHan. There was no significant difference in the894G/T polymorphism between Xinjiang Uygur and Han.
