ObjectiveInjuries have become the major public health problem which threats human lifeand public health. In China, according to statistics, burn injury rank NO.2after thetraffic accident due to accidental injury every year. Deaths, loss of limb function, disfigurement and other consequences caused by burn injury make a great burden andpain to the society, families and individuals. Often requires long-term rehabilitationperiod, copious skin grafts and agonized physical therapy, burn injury leave a lifelongphysical and psychological trauma to victims. On account of different regions and different medical standards, statistical resultsare diverse from each other and have their own characteristics. Through theinvestigation of medical records of a specialist burns hospital in Changchun, thisstudy analyzed the characteristics of burn cases each year, burns causation andinfluencing factors, it provides clinical basis for the prevention of burn injury andfoundation to promote a better burn prevention knowledge.Observation Object and Methods1. Cases selection and investigationThe burn injured patients (all kinds of patients with chronic granulation woundare not included) in the specialist burns hospital in Changchun from2009to2011wereinvestigated. The investigation content contains age, gender, cause burns, burn depth, burn area and consulting time.2. Statistical MethodsThe chi-square test in SPSS13.0statistical software was used for statisticalanalysis. Significance level α=0.05.ResultsIn burn cases, the male proportion is higher; younger than12year-old cases weresignificantly higher than the proportion of over12year-old cases. The highestproportion was hydrothermal burns and scorching burns in all the burn causes. Inthree years, the composition of age and gender has no significant difference in burncases (P>0.05).Comparison of the burn causes in different ages, younger than12year-old cases are significantly higher than other cases of burn causes; patients older than12years,the proportion of them are significantly higher than the other causes (P<0.05).Comparison of the burn causes in different years, various burn cases of theproportion of burn causes have no significant difference (P>0.05). But burn causeshave a significant difference in different months (P<0.05), the proportion of electricalinjuries are significantly increased from July to December and reduced from April toJune; there are more burn cases from January to June.Different burn cases, burn areas were significantly different (P<0.05). In thecases of burn areas of0-5%and6-15%, the hydrothermal burns have the highestpercentage; in the burn areas which are more than15%of the cases, the scorchingburns have the highest percentage. The burn areas of electrical injuries were relativelysmall.In808cases of burn cases, different genders, different ages and different years ofthe cases, the proportion of burn areas have no significant difference (P>0.05). But inthree years, the burn cases in different months had significantly different burn areas(P<0.05), mainly occurred in summer and winter.Burn cases of different gender and different years, the burn depths have nosignificant difference (P>0.05), mainly for II degree burns; burn patients younger than12years old, the proportion of II degree burns is significantly higher than the above12-year-old group (P<0.05); in the burn cases from April to June and from October toDecember, the proportion of deep burn wounds which are higher than II degree burnsis higher than the other months; in the case of hydrothermal burns, the proportion ofdeep burn wounds which are higher than II degree burns is highest while theproportion of scorching burns which are greater than II degree burns is lowest(P<0.05); in the burn cases of large burn area, the proportion of burn depth is thehighest (P<0.05).ConclusionIn the burn patients, the proportion of male is significantly higher than the female.Younger than12year-old groups are significantly higher than the proportion of burnpatients who are over12years. In the burn patients who are greater than12year-oldgroup, the proportion of hydrothermal burns is significantly higher than the over12year-old patients, however, in the proportion of burn injury caused by scorching burns, electrical burns and chemical burns, the proportion of younger than12years old patients is significantly higher than the patients over12years old. Female issignificantly higher than the male in the proportion of hydrothermal burns while maleis significantly higher than the female in the proportion of electrical burns andchemical burns. The percentage of burn area less than5%and burn depth less than IIdegree is the highest. In the burned area, the proportion of the limbs burn is thehighest. But the burn patients of each year, the burn proportion and type have nosignificant difference.
