Objective:This study aims at exploring the interrelation between peptic ulcer anddepression and anxiety, and finding out the regularity among common syndromes of pepticulcerin TCM.Methods:Using the method of epidemiological survey, basic data and clinicalinformations of patients with peptic ulcer associated with depression and anxiety werecollected, additionally, the patients were asked to assess their severity of depression andanxiety and also fill in questionnaire;and finally all the above data and information wereprocessed and analyzed to find out epidemiological data, potential pathogenic factors andinterrelation between syndrome and depression and/or anxiety.Result:1.With the methodsof χ~2test and Logistic regression analysis, the study suggested that some factors asmale, introverted personality and stress can be considered as potential factors leading topeptic ulcer depression, and male, emotional stimulation, the patients at ages between40~49can be considered as potential factors leading to peptic ulcer anxiety.2.The study showedsignificant differences in statistics between the patients accompanied by depression andanxiety, and their common syndromes3. With the methods of χ~2test and Logisticregression analysis, The differences were statistically significant between peptic ulcerassociated with depression and anxiety and the distribution of TCM syndromes(P<0.05).The patients accompanied with depression were often manifested as thesyndrome of‘incoordination between the liver and stomach’,or‘deficiency cold of spleenand stomach syndrome;whilst the patients accompanied by anxiety were mostly marked bythe syndrome of ‘cold-heat complication’.Conclusion:1.Clinically,along with thedevelopment and deterioration of peptic ulcer, depression and anxiety became more andmore serious.2.In the patients with ulcerative colitis, depression often occurred in cases ofmale, introverted personality, and stress due to work and life;while anxiety was mostly seen in cases of male, emotional stimulation, ages at40~49in particular.3.The patientaccompanied with depression mostly showed in the syndrome of‘incoordination betweenthe liver and stomach’or‘deficiency cold of spleen and stomach syndrome’;while thepatients accompanied by anxiety were often seen in the syndrome of‘cold-heatcomplication’.
