Scutellarin is a natural medicine extracted from Erigeron breviscapus. It is effective in treating cerebral hemiplegia, coronary disease, cerebral thrombosis, cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral embolism, microcirculation disturbance, etc. Scutellarin is of low solubility in most common solvents, which is insentive to the change of temaprature. Therefore using direct purification process requires a large amount of solvent, which has following shortages:low efficiency, severe loss of products, difficulty in recycling the solvent, and strong potential of harming the environment. This paper comes up with a new purification process of scutellarin based on purifying its salts. It converted scutellarin to its sodium salts firstly, then employed reasonable recrystallization process of sodium scutellarin with the purpose of separating scutellarin from impurities, and finally obatined the high-purity scutellarin through reduction process. This new purification process is distinguished by separatiing scutellarin from impurities effectively through using the excellent solubility of sodium scutellarin. Compared with other conventional methods, the novel method in this paper has the advantages of simple process, good separation effect and energy saving. This paper presents the experimental results and theorical analysis related to the novel purification method of scutellarin based on its saline refinement, including the following four parts:1. Through choosing the appropriate alkali solutions, the supersaturated solution of sodium scutellarin could be obtained.2. Through a series of experiments, the best recrystallization conditions could be obtained with the target of residual rate of scutellarin in mother liquors and relative impurity content in crystals.3. The high-purity scutellarin was obtained through acidizing technology. 4. The new purification process of scutellarin was evaluated in solvent consumption, stability and complexity. And a process of obtaining high purity scutellarin from medicinal materials was designed.
